FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions
What is Zyrafoam?
Zyrafoam is a high‑performance foam engineered for machining, pattern‑making, prototyping, and casting applications. It’s designed to offer excellent dimensional stability, clean machining behavior, and predictable performance in industrial environments.
What makes Zyrafoam different from other foams?
Zyrafoam is formulated to machine smoothly without melting or gumming, hold fine detail, and maintain stability across large billets. Compared to common EPS or urethane boards, it offers improved surface finish, lower dust nuisance, and more consistent density.
How does Zyrafoam machine?
Zyrafoam cuts cleanly with standard CNC tooling. It powders rather than melts, allowing high feed rates and excellent detail retention. Most users can run their existing toolpaths with minimal adjustment.
Is Zyrafoam suitable for foundry and casting applications?
Yes. Zyrafoam is engineered for predictable burnout, low ash content, and controlled gas generation. It works well with standard coatings and is compatible with lost‑foam and evaporative casting processes.
What sizes and densities are available?
Zyrafoam is offered in multiple densities and in a range of block, billet, and sheet formats. Large glue‑ups and custom sizes are available upon request.
How much does Zyrafoam cost?
Pricing depends on density, size, and order volume. Bulk and repeat‑order discounts are available. Contact us for a quote based on your specific dimensions.
Is Zyrafoam safe to machine and use?
Yes. Zyrafoam produces a dry, non‑sticky dust that is easy to collect with standard shop vacuums or dust systems. It does not release hazardous fumes under normal machining conditions. As with any foam, proper ventilation and PPE are recommended.
Is Zyrafoam environmentally friendly?
Zyrafoam is designed to minimize waste and reduce emissions during burnout. Scrap can be compacted and recycled where facilities exist.
